Peace Is Every Breath Publisher HarperOne Thich Nhat Hanh Books

I was in my local library looking for a book to manage stress that was not "wordy". I picked this one up, (still have it at home), and immediately ordered my own copy. I knew I would be referring to it for the rest of my life. If you are like me, as I start each chapter my mind goes "Yeah, but..." and by the time I am finished it is clear. The breathing techniques this monk describes are simple and make sense. I use them everyday now and try to stay in the moment. If you have a horrible childhood that effects you to this day, maybe this will be of some help. It puts things in perspective and provides a way to look at life I had not considered. AND helps me clear my brain when trying to go to sleep...worth every penny.

Peace Is Every Breath Publisher HarperOne Thich Nhat Hanh Books Reviews

This book changed my life, and my son's life. It provides simple ways to achieve mindfulness with just a beath. This book should be required reading for every male on earth...males because we are so easy to get angry and lose precious life time and life energy in anger.
I bought this book as recommended by a friend who also starting to practice mindfullness. I enjoy the simple yet well thought out lessons and excercises. I have already read "The Monks and Me" which is an awsome book written by Mary Paterson journalizing her stay at Plum Village, France, Hanh's Buddhist Monestary. Her book helps you see how Thich Nhat Hanh's lessons can be applied to real life situations. I recommend both books highly. These and other tools I hope will help me slow down, be less stressed and return to the joy of the moment...every breath.
I bought this after reading some of his quotes. This book has been an amazing read for me. I recently lost my husband quite unexpectedly and was left devastated with emotional pain. This read has been incredibly comforting and indeed life altering. I suggest this read to anyone whether they are practiced in meditation and their faith or not. I have been on a spiritual journey for most of my 61 years and this is something I would like everyone I know to read.

Thich Nhat Hanh books are wonderful to read when you need to be reminded the importance of noticing
all the goodness that is ready for each one of us each time we live with awareness.
If you need to learn to slow down and develop your sense of appreciation, he is the author for you.
A wonderful introductory book on the practice of mindfulness. Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh writes in a way that is derived from Buddhist roots, but accessible to people of all backgrounds and religions, especially those without any exposure to Buddhism. This book does not go into lofty philosophy or delve deep into Buddhism at all, but is more a practical guide for peace and calmness in daily life. At the end are appendices with practical exercises. Definitely a great read for beginners, but also an amazing refresher for experienced practitioners. However, reading is not enough - one must put the advice into daily wholesome actions of body, speech, and mind.
I love me a good Thich Nhat Hanh book. They're usually quick and simple to digest, chock-full of easily-applied sage wisdom from one of the most influential Buddhist leaders in the West. “Peace is Every Breath” is no exception.

Hanh is a world-renowned Vietnamese Zen Buddhist master, poet, scholar, and peace activist who attempts to show people how to incorporate the practice of mindfulness into each and every waking moment. The followup to his bestselling classic, “Peace is Every Step”, the chapters of this book flow together as a helpful guide that the reader can use to live a fuller life.

He writes

“Mindfulness is what brings us back in touch with what's happening in the present moment in our body, in our feelings, in our thinking, and also in our environment. It enables us to be present in the here and the now, mind and body together, aware of what's going on inside us and around us. And when we are very mindful of something, we are concentrated on it.”

This book shows the reader how it is possible to practice cultivating mindfulness in each and every moment, featuring short chapters on various everyday activities that are often tedious and unmemorable for most of us, such as waking up each morning, eating breakfast, and brushing your teeth. I think that Hanh successfully unpacks the concept that we can continue our meditation or yoga practice even if we have gotten up from our zafus or stepped off our mats for the day. While I enjoyed the first book, “Peace is Every Step”, a bit better than this one, I still think that “Peace is Every Breath” is well worth reading and would encourage you to check it out if you're in need of a relaxing deep breath.
This is one of most refreshing books I've ever read, quite frankly. It is the ONLY book, outside of personal copies of our scriptures, that my wife and I have purchased two copies so we could each have our own - it's that good. It's very easy reading, and can be read small bits at a time or straight through with ease. If you've ever even thought about using breathing meditation, whether you're interested in the "Zen" philosophy or not, this is a truly great read.

There is a 21 minute YouTube video of the author being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey. I do not enjoy watching Oprah, yet that did not detract from the video in any way for me. I highly recommend it! (There are shorter extracts of it - be sure to watch the 21 minute version from her Super Soul Sunday program.) Thich Nhat Hanh is truly one of a kind, and in his mid-80s, is a soon-to-be-lost world treasure. I wish I'd learned about him decades ago. (My wife could not be any more positive either - so this deserves a double 5-star rating, since we purchased two copies.)
